X2: A Interpretation

While plenty of media has been inspired by God Loves, Man Kills. The most famous and accurate interpretation was X2. X2 is not the most accurate film, however the overall story contains the same basic points. The movie’s plot consists of this time General William Stryker as he attempts to use Professor X’s psychic abilities to kill all mutants. Magneto ends up joining forces with the X-Men to rescue Professor X and that is where the similarities end. Stryker’s change, damaged the message of the story as it was no longer a man whose words created fear and anger. Stryker is now a military head who works with the United States government to try and make mutants into a threat, so he has a reason to kill them. The core idea is the same, but the changing of him to a government official removes any questioning of religious figures. To top it all off, Magneto uses Professor X to then try and kill all the humans. This is not how the character acts. Magneto is a complex man but unless you’re discussing the ultimate series, Magneto is a Holocaust survivor, who only wants to prevent the deaths of mutants. This is downright character assassination and should be labeled as such. X2 is a good movie, by far the best of the X-Men movies, and overall does a good job of understanding the topic, however it falls flat in some areas that make its message fail.
